One of the driving ideas of Al-Qadim is powerful genies use mortals as game pieces, enticing them with powers and tricking them with promises. One of the ideas I wanted to communicate was the idea spellcasters of the setting could call upon the genies in their spells. These spells are meant to communicate the theme of the genie, as well as openly display the power being bestowed on the caster. In short, no one should be surprised the caster is asking the genie for aid. In a setting where genies jockey for power and people are fearful or covetous of the powers they wield, this can be a significant disadvantage. What follows is just a sampling of potential genie blessings, and the specific thematic through-lines I am attempting to convey in the current Al-Qadim update.
